Foundations and Advanced Training

We need to raise up and develop leaders of all levels; men and women who are called to serve and participate in the growth of the church, well equipped for its mission today, within the UK and beyond.

Leadership Training Foundations is a two-year course, in which trainees are based in local churches. It has proved to be extremely popular in past years, and has a great range of speakers including Greg Haslam, Mick Taylor, John Groves and Matt Hosier.

We have eight, two day blocks, of theological training per year. In addition to this we have introduced a distance learning element to the course to reduce costs for students, and to be more flexible so that the course is accessible to more students. You will be developed in leadership skills, theology and doctrine, and character. You will be equipped for church planting, preaching and teaching, and pastoral ministry.

The course includes:

  • Lectures on doctrine and theology, followed up with written assignments
  • Interactive sessions and open forums, in which you will discuss leadership issues.
  • A mentor for each trainee, who will personally invest in your ministry.
  • Leadership Training Foundations runs over two years and takes place in eight two day blocks per year, which usually take place on Fridays and/or  Saturdays.
  • Distance learning

The classroom based elements of the training are vital for discussion, mutual learning and developing relationships with other leaders, so there will always be part of the course that is delivered face to face.

Raising up leaders is vital for building the church, and for changing the world. We all have our part to play in this adventure together - and training is a vital part of that. Why not apply and see where Foundations training might take you?

This has been a very popular training course for many years and has also served leaders from other church streams.

It is open to men and women who have a recognised preaching and teaching ministry as it concentrates almost entirely on the interpretation and application of the bible. Usually those who come on this course will have been expected to have gone through other leadership training especially Foundations. There are some exceptions to this; especially Elders who have not previously had any opportunity to take other leadership courses. Advanced has also been attended by experienced leaders who have wanted to do a refresher study course.

  • The course takes place bimonthly for 3 days at time; Wednesday to Friday and we run a total of 12 sessions over a two year period.
  • There will be a maximum number of 15 on the course as it is highly interactive and we want to give everyone opportunity to contribute.
  • Besides the actual teaching by very experienced leaders - and always with full notes - there are practical preaching classes and input from other leaders in open forum sessions.
  • The course begins in January each year and we ask applicants to fill in a short form giving details of their church role and educational background etc. There will usually be a short interview to explain in detail what takes place during the course training.
